With the success of this tournament MuzzaWeb wonders if EP should give serious consideration to organising some more tournaments. With good prizes like the above on there is no reason not to try.

The Sevens. Post Section Play. 21 – 12 – 25
MuzzaWeb had hoped that today might have brought three wins in the Centre 7s but not to be. But as Meatloaf so eloquently said, “Tw0 out of three ain’t bad!” Many would have expected the Div. 1 men to win, a team containing 4 Blackjacks and 3 Canterbury reps to succeed but it appears that Belfast is their nemesis.
The Magnificent Seven. 
By defeating Burnside 2 – 1 in the final EP are the Centre Div. 1 sevens champions for 2025. Well done ladies. Earlier they had defeated Allenton 3 – 0.

The final: Victory didn’t arrive but that does not lesson the occasion. Coming second was no mean feat A valiant effort by the fours was not enough as Nelson won the other two games which included a singles masterclass by Jo Edwards.

The Fenwood Duster.
21 – 10 – 26
The first official interclub tournament of the season, for the Fenwood Duster, EP v Fendalton. EP regained it last year and there was a quiet determination to retain it. This was the 46th time this tournament has been played.
It was a wonderfully fine day although Canterbury’s easterly made itself known during the latter part of the afternoon and made conditions quite tricky.
Three bowl triples were played. Final score. EP 162 Fen. 104 EP 9 wins 2 draws Fen. 5 wins 2 draws

The Elmburn Shield.
On a fine but breezy day the Elmburn Shield was up for grabs for the 46th time, the first in 1971.
Tournament organiser Neil Johnstone laid down the rules of engagement. [The most wins; if equal the number of points scored.]
Burnside regained the Elmburn Shield by 9½ – 6½.
A very pleasant afternoon, breezy conditions making bowling tricky at times but all games played in a wonderful spirit. Congratulations to Burnside, EP will be out to take the shield next season.

A good day with an excellent green and a comfortable win by 8 wins to 2. All games played in great spirit and enjoyment. The format was 2 bowl triples, 2 games of 10 ends.

This popular competition ran throughout the season with two Elmwood Park teams and one each from Fendalton and Barrington United. EP at times struggled for numbers, well done to Brian Smith who miraculously was able to field full teams most weeks. With a decision at the agm to play triples next season the selection problem hopefully will be relieved.

O6o Fours:
What a day for O60 fours teams of David Vujcich, Pam Phair, Neil Johnstone & Kim Rowlands; Kelvin Scott, Tony Marshall, Ray Hooper & Ian Rule; and Bev Morel, Don Baker, Christine Buchannan and Tony Smith in the Centre event at Bowls Papanui today. Three teams entered the tournament and three teams got through to the semi final. A marvellous achievement. The Scott team defeated the Vujcich team 17 – 12 whilst the Morel team lost to a well-performed Darfield team 15 – 16.
So the Scott four defended their title in the final Friday, March 6. Jonathan Flint, Tony Marshall, Ray Hooper and Ian Rule won the title winning 15 – 9.

Well done to Matt who qualified and who won his quarter (21 – 7) and semi final (21 – 15) men’s singles year 1 & 2 games today at West Melton to advance to the final scheduled for Sunday 25 Jan. at Fendalton where he played Brett Saunders of Bowls Papanui winning the Yr. 1 & 2 singles final at Fendalton against Brett Saunders of Bowls Papanui 21 – 13 with a display of superb draw bowling.
Annette won her first game and was leading in her second but retired feeling unwell. Quite a number of defaults, perhaps due to the extremely hot conditions.

What an achievement for Bev, she has over 40 Canterbury titles. Add to this the 40 club titles she has won, amazing!!!!! There would not be many bowlers who would have superior numbers than this.

Bev Morel and Nylla Tamati at Christchurch won all games and will meet old foes Allenton in the semi final.
Lance and Trevor Pascoe at New Brighton where they won all three games and will play Christchurch in a semi final on Saturday, April 18.
15 – 3 – 26 Champion of champion Year 1 & 2 singles: U5 singles:
Matt Lewis was at Morrison Ave competing in the year 1 & 2 singles, Saturday, while the under 5 years on Sunday have Jo Wyatt at Woolston Park and Phil Smith at Cashmere.
Matt won his first two games but was narrowly beaten by Burnside at the quarter final stage.
Yr. 1 – 5 Philip went out in round one, Jo in round two.
21 – 3 – 26 Champion of champion triples:
Lance Pascoe, Trevor Pascoe replacing an injured Gary Lawson and Kelvin Scott won all games and will be continuing on semi finals day, April 18, playing Burnside.
Bev Morel, Nylla Tamati and Tania Woodham, sub for Christine Buchanan, at Sumner were narrowly beaten by Morrison Ave in their second game
22 – 3 – 26 Champion of champion mixed pairs:
The mixed pairs champions Bev Morel, replacing C. Buchanan, and Jonathan Flint went down at the quarter final stage beaten by the highly ranked pair of R. Hocking and O. Mancer.
It can be reported that the green received marvellous praise from many participants on Sunday. Well done Steve.

Post Christmas Highlights 2026.
* The continued high quality of the greens. Thank you Steve and Don.
* The success of the yr 0 – 5 triples tournament.
* In fact the entire U5 section was a revelation. Great results and well run by Uncle Phil and Jamie.
* The double triple ladies who won div. 1 with a game to spare.
* EP1 men’s 3×3 team’s winning their division.
* EP3 men’s 3×3 coming a respectable 2nd. This is notable because this team mainly consisted of U5 members.
* U5 EP1 pairs coming 2nd [only by differential] EP2 and EP3 got 3rd.
* The success of club members in the nationals. Not only were titles won but the many members who made post section. Click here for a breakdown of the Nationals.
In Christchurch fifteen club members made it through to post section. Great effort!
In the Bay of Plenty there were fewer members participating than in Christchurch singles but still a great effort as seven members of EP made it through to post section in one or both disciplines.
* The participation of senior men: G. Lawson, L. Pascoe, K. Scott + R. Cook and A. Curtain [managers] in the National Intercentre and the winning of 15 silver titles by Gary Lawson and Kelvin Scott was a notable achievement. Congratulations to you both.

Comments and Opinions, 2026.
* MuzzaWeb is not keen on the competitions that go for only five rounds. Even the traditional seven rounds is short enough.
* The two premier teams, men’s Watson Shield and women’s 7s, would have been disappointed with their 3rd placings and missing playoffs.
* There was an indecent haste to get some championship games completed in time for the champion of champions events. Maybe a stricter “watch” on round completion dates.
* MuzzaWeb felt that Friday late afternoon use of the Elmwood Green for important championship games was not fully utilised. The Kelly v Lawson pairs game was well watched and the skilful display of bowls appreciated by a good crowd.
* MuzzaWeb felt that some important championship games were not particularly well advertised. Was the website fully used? Probably not but can only be a successful tool if it is fully informed and kept up to date.
* MuzzsWeb is extremely appreciative to the many members who sent results in. It wasn’t perfect but it was pretty good. Thanks again. The web results charts were frequently out of date, perhaps a solution could be that results be texted to MuzzaWeb by the players when games played. The web can always be accessed but the clubrooms ae often not available to read notice boards. Thanks especially to Kim, Nylla, Paul and Jonathan who regularly kept me informed.
* There is a need to keep the club’s Facebook up to date.
* 5 in 25′ is a shortened version of the game that hopes to attract new players to give the sport a go. Ben Harris is the man behind the game. Is there a place in our programme ffor something like this. Should we have some novelty events? Evening games under lights perhaps?
