ELMWOOD PARK
BOWLING CLUB

The Road to Completion.

The Future.

14 – 8 – 20
From President Pete!
A survey, commissioned by Deloittes, has been sent to all club members.
As you will be aware the executive commissioned Deloittes to compile a survey of where the EPBC may look to take the club into the future.
As part of their project they have compiled a survey of the needs and wants of club members.
These are a series of questions that the executive believe will help guide their thinking.
Your participation in the survey is vital for forward planning.
There is an opportunity for your involvement by way of adding your comments and suggestions.
The closing off date for submissions is 30th August 2020

Drilling being done on the old number 1 green to find out what’s below.

9 – 3 – 21
After a time line that seemed to go on forever President Pete announced that resource consent had been granted for our new building. This was indeed good news but there is to be time allowed for submissions from interested parties.

17 – 8 – 21
As we move closer to a time for the demolition of the Heaton St. Clubrooms, it is now time to organise the cleanout of the said clubrooms
A lot of work has already been done in this regard, but now is the time to roll our sleeves up and prepare the contents for sale. This is not too hard a job BUT, the more people we can get on board the easier it will be.
The idea is all salvageable items need to be put in the Hall and then it will be trucked away to Mainland Auctions.
I propose that we make a real effort on Wednesday 25th August starting at 9 am at Heaton Street. It is hoped that 3 hours of work will break the back of the project.
Remember the saying “many hands make light work”.
This will be the case if we get a great turnout for a one-off effort.
Please diary this date, Wednesday 25th August from 9 am
Look forward to your attendance.
Peter Smith,   President.

12 – 11 – 20

There will be plenty of opportunity for you to view and comment on where we have got to, to date.

Great News!!
The contract with Armitage Williams for the construction of the new clubrooms and the surrounds at Heaton Street has been signed.
The plan is for the removal of the asbestos from the old building on December 13.

The demolition of the old building is scheduled to begin on January 10, 2022.
The delivery of the new clubrooms is programmed to be 42 weeks.
This of course is subject to delays which are out of Armitage Williams control, eg Covid.
This represents a new dawn in the long running delays which have been out of the control of the club and Armitage Williams.
Elmwood Park is entering an exciting 2022, as work will finally be underway and we will watch the progress of this exciting new development in the history of The Elmwood Park Bowling Club.

It was the news we’d all been waiting for.
Full consent grant, the removal of asbestos on December 13 and a demolition contract that will see the demise of the old Heaton Street pavilion on January 10. Well done to everyone concerned !
It can be expected that the demolition will take a couple of weeks, which means the new structure will start about the end of January and the indicated 42 weeks of construction (all going well in these days of covid) means that our magnificent new club house should be opened just before next Christmas.
In announcing the good news to club members, President PeteSmith said “We are entering an exciting 2022, as work will finally be underway and we will watch the progress of this exciting new development in the history of The Elmwood Park Bowling Club.”

Southern Demolition arrived on site and started the demolition of Heaton Street. I’m advised that it will take approximately 10 days to clear the site and then the work can start on the rebuild.

This represents a start of the new development after a long period of  working on the new site with Council deliberations and consents being granted.
Now it is onwards and upwards with real progress being made.

EPBC is in the process of an ambitious rebuild project of a new clubhouse and green at our Heaton Street location. The new facility will be one of the best in the country and will be an asset to the lawn bowling community in Christchurch. After some initial delays, the site has now been cleared and the concrete slab for the new building is almost ready to be poured.

One week later.

New Clubhouse update (May) – The team at Armitage Williams have been busy on the construction of the new clubhouse at Heaton Street. The concrete panels have been craned into place and the ground is currently being prepared for the floor slab to be poured. We will keep you posted as we progress this exciting project!

Our builders have made some great progress over the past few weeks, with the new build of our Heaton Street clubhouse. The floor slab has now been poured and the steel frames are being craned into place. As you can see, the shape of the new facility is really starting to show! We will continue to provide updates over the coming months as the dream becomes a reality!

13 – 7 – 22

Now that the rain has subsided for a day, here is some latest photos of the new club house which shows it really taking shape. The roof will be installed over the coming week and then the full height glazing for the north facing windows will be next, to get the building water tight. Without a doubt, when completed this will be one of the best lawn bowls clubhouse’s in the country.

16 – 8 – 22
Progress being made with the clubhouse build and although some catching up has been done they are still about four weeks behind.
Could be a while before this green is ready to be played on.

7 – 10 – 22
New Clubhouse Update. See how our new clubhouse project is progressing. The new building is now fully watertight and the internal fit out is currently underway. The surrounds for the green are now complete and the surface is currently being levelled for seed to be laid very shortly. We are hugely grateful for our construction partner Armitage Williams Construction Limited for their work to date and all the trades that have been part of the build. We can’t wait to get into the new premise and share it with the wider bowls community. For anyone who is interested in being a part of the new Elmwood Park Bowling Club, send us a message!!

Progress on the new building is beginning to gather pace. Externally, work has begun on the cladding at the entry and a small section of the roof is being completed. Internally walls are stopped and ready for paint, floors are prepped for vinyl coverings where specified. Work will begin on the timber ceilings over the next couple of weeks. Fit out of the kitchen and bar areas are also in progress. Work on the green is now progressing well after considerable delays caused by the weather and restricted access caused by delays in the building; we expect to sow the green over the next two weeks after consultation with two of the more experienced greenkeepers.

3 – 11 – 22
What a momentous week for Elmwood Park Bowling Club with our new number 1 green at Heaton Street finally being sprayed with seed. The team, led by the wonderful Don Baker, have been working very hard behind the scenes to get the green prepped for seeding. Special thanks to the lads from Super Seeders for their work and everyone else who has been involved along the way! When the new club house and green is up and running, it will be the best NZ can offer!

4 – 2 – 23
Doesn’t it look good? Can’t wait to move in.
New Clubhouse Update (Jan) – The finishing touches to our incredible new clubhouse are currently underway and we are hoping to have the keys handed over within the coming weeks. As with projects of this size and nature there have been plenty of ups and downs, however with the finish line so close, we are super excited to be close to completion! The team from Armitage Williams have done a superb job as our construction partner and a special thanks to them and all the sub-contractors that have been involved in the project to date. Also, a special mention to Jason Walker from Walker Architects, who has designed a building that is second to none and we are so excited to see his vision come to fruition. We look forward to welcoming bowlers from all over Canterbury once we are up and running.

SALE OF DONALD PLACE
The executive can confirm that, after some difficulties, which seem to have been surmounted with the advice of our lawyers, Anderson Lloyd, a fresh agreement for sale and purchase has been entered into with slightly different purchasers with a new settlement date of next year.
The Club has received further funds in the meantime.
Brian Smith and Neil Johnsone have been kept very busy on this matter and we thank the executive and Jamie Wagner for their help and support.
