Just getting in touch to provide some more information about our upcoming traffic signal upgrades at the intersection of Glandovey Road, Heaton Street, Rossall Street, and Strowan Road.We’ll be beginning work from the evening of Sunday 19 April, we’ll be working in the evenings for three weeks and will then swap to day works for the following two weeks.
During the evenings, Strowan Road will be closed at the intersection. During the day, some traffic management will remain in place, however traffic will be able to travel through the intersection in all directions.

The cup will be presented at our prizegiving on 18th April.
The cup is awarded to the person who receives the most votes by the 18th April, from club members for his/her contribution during the season as a volunteer. If the person is on the board as a volunteer, that person is still eligible.
Votes can be cast by an email to the club, setting out your name and the person you are voting for or calling at the club to register your vote. A form will be available for this.
EP ’s board has decided, with her agreement, to appoint our treasurer, Lesley Campbell, to this position so that she is now secretary/ treasurer. Lesley has stepped in before in this capacity when Erin Hyde relinquished the position.
EP is grateful to Les for accepting the added responsibility at this time.

Would all members please respect that the designated (named) car parks are for those people only & refrain from parking in them.Most of these car parks relate to volunteers & are a small perk for the hours they put in.
It is often frustrating when they find someone in their car park & in the case of the caterers often have food etc to bring into the club rooms & have to park some distance away.

Greetings fellow bowlers and welcome to the 20025 – 26 season. since I was last president.
It is an honour to serve as your president again after an eight year gap. A lot has changed since I was last president. The urban beach has been transformed back to a bowling gren, our number 2 green has had further improvements, and we now have a wonderful new clubhouse for all to enjoy. We also have a healthy balance sheet and all of these, along with our considerable playing strength make us the envy of many other clubs.This can lead to a “tall poppy syndrome” which can reflect negatively on the way other clubs perceive us. Elmwood has always been considered a friendly club which is a great place to play and visit. We must continue to win with dignity and lose with honour whenever we are on the greens.
Speaking of winning, we were once again very well represented at the recent Bowls Canterbury Awards Evening and congratulations to all of those wo won titles last season. Since that awards night both our women’s and men’s champion fours teams have finished runners up in the Bowls New Zealand champion of champions event, Well done to all.
The last twelve months have been a busy time for your executive and the many helprs wh have contributed so much to the smooth running of our club. My thanks go to all concerned.
Our greens have once again been amongst the very best in Canterbury thanks to the outstanding work off our greenkeeper Kelvin Scott, greens superintendent Don Baker and all their willing helpers. Kelvin is stepping down this year and we welcome Steve Street to Elmwood Park to continue the good work.
Volunteers form the backbone of most sporting clubs in New Zealand and we are extremely lucky to have so many people who give up their time so willingly in the interests of our club. Some of our volunteers are getting close to retirement age and we are always looking for willing helpers to spread the load, This season we will be co-hosting the National singles and pairs over the new year and we will definitely need further volunteers to help out.
Finally I would like to wish everyone an enjoyable season and look forward to further success on the green.

There is a defibrillator at the new clubrooms. We would like everyone to get some familiarity with it, before they may need to use it one day.
It is so so so easy, take it out of the cabinet, open it, turn it on, it will talk to you!
- The sign on the cabinet that says the “alarm will sound” is NOT TRUE – no alarm will sound if you open the cabinet and take the defib out.
- Unzip the container and turn it on – button No. 1
- It will now start telling you what to do – very very simple.
Because you won’t be able to actually place the defib. pads on to someone while exploring, the machine will not go any further with the instructions but, it would if the pads were on. Do not worry – you cannot do anything wrong. It will not shock someone unless it detects a ‘shockable rhythm’. It is completely fool proof.
So – have a look. At least then you won’t hesitate to take it out of the cabinet if it’s needed. Turn it off when you have finished though, we don’t want the batteries to run out!
